Current Work Setup/Process for DailyUI Challenges

I have blogged about how I work primarily on Figma on a PC and that’s where the majority of my work is done on. I would like to go into detail on the specs on my PC and why I decided to go with my setup.

PC Specs

AMD Ryzen 2700X, Asus X470-F, 2x *GB GSkill 3200 Ram, Powercolor Vega 56, Corsair Platinum 750W PSU.

The reason for going into this particular setup is simple. A multipurpose PC with the capabilities to game and be my primary workstation for video editing and graphical design. I have not run into hardware limitations preventing me from doing any video or image rendering work. Although I state I haven’t done any serious work into 3D animations, processing, etc. I also have some leg room to update this PC with new hardware if I need more power.

Work Process

I will detail my general process when it comes to doing DailyUI challenges and other UI related work.

Depending on the work in question my artboard will usually be sized according to the project whether it’s mobile, tablet, or desktop size. I will use the product template (Browser template, phone template, etc) as a container to house the assets for the work. I will copy the template and start work on the general structure/layout of the assignment. This is normally a low-fi wireframe. Sometimes I would stretch out the low fi wireframe instead of working in Figma to expedite the idea generation. It’s usually much faster to do it on paper than it is to do it on screen. I will sometimes skip this process if I have a general idea of what I’m aiming for.

Once I like the layout of the low-fi wireframes, I work on the mid-fi part where I establish text hierarchy, refined asset placement, and more self-made assets. This is still done in greyscale.

Lastly, is where I transition the mid-fi wireframe to a hi-fi wireframe. The choice of colors largely depends on the project I’m working on (food app will have visually contrasting colors, etc). In terms of DailyUI challenges, the work is over and I moved onto the next challenge repeating the same process used previously.
